Enpirion's 12-V integrated power IC claims to deliver the industry's highest power density

Enpirion has introduced the EN2300 family of fully integrated 12 Volt DC-DC converters, implemented in the company’s industry leading power MOSFET technology which the company claims offers double the power density compared with alternative solutions.
The addition of the EN2340QI 4 Amp, EN2360QI 6 Amp, EN2390QI 9 Amp, and EN23F0QI 15 Amp devices further broadens Enpirion’s extensive PowerSoC (power-system-on-chip) portfolio. The devices capitalize on Enpirion’s field proven PowerSoC technology, which integrates the controller, power MOSFETs, high frequency input capacitors, compensation network and inductor.
The EN2300 family offers small solution sizes with uncompromised performance, highest reliability, and a 45 percent reduction in time to market. Enpirion says the company’s customers have already validated the benefits of the devices with more than 50 design wins ahead of the official market release.
Enpirion’s proprietary high-speed transistor structure implemented in 0.18u LDMOS process achieves the industry’s best Figure of Merit (FOM = Gate Charge x On-state Resistance in units of milli-ohm nano-coulombs) to operate at high frequency while reducing switching losses.

“Enpirion focuses on driving high speed, low-loss power MOSFET technology as the key enabler for delivering the highest efficiency solutions with leading power density,” said Dr. Ashraf Lotfi, Enpirion Chief Technology Officer. “Our technology FOM of 20 provides a 40% improvement over alternative LDMOS, 73% versus VDMOS, and 33% better than high performance GaN.”
The EN2300 devices offer compact solution footprints from 4 Amp at 190mm 2 to 15 Amp at 308mm2 which represents up to a sixty percent area reduction versus competing alternatives at comparable performance. The devices support an input voltage range of 4.5 to 14 V and an output voltage range of 0.6 to 5 V.

Highest power density
The market pressure to add more value and functionality to end products compresses available PCB space. The EN2300 family along with the rest of Enpirion’s PowerSoC portfolio provides the industry’s highest density power IC solutions – greatly minimizing the amount of space needed for power management compared to alternative discrete and modules solutions.
High energy efficiency
All EN2300 devices achieves up to 95 percent efficiency with a flattened efficiency profile from 10% to 100% load permitting designers to manage power effectively over the entire operating range.
8x higher reliability
Enpirion integrated power IC solutions achieve 35,700 years mean time between failures (MTBF). PowerSoCs are specified, simulated, characterized, validated and manufacturing-tested as a complete power system – which, when coupled with tightly controlled IC manufacturing processes and fewer total components, yields unsurpassed reliability.
Total solution cost reduction
Enpirion PowerSoCs require fewer external components. EN2300’s inherently low ripple (e.g. <10 mV) and EMI (i.e. CISPR 22 Class B compliant) eliminate the need for external noise filters, while its thermal performance eliminate the need for heat sinks or airflow.
Simplified design flow
The EN2300 family, like all Enpirion PowerSoCs, requires 45% fewer man-hours and 1/3 less exposure to design cycle iteration versus discrete switching regulators. Fully validated and proven PCB layout and design files enable customers nearly 100 percent first-pass reported success.
