Snap-in ultracapacitors provides backup benefits for industrial applications
July 02, 2012 | Paul Buckley | 222904812
Easby Electronics has introduced the ESHSR series 360 F 2.7 V ultracapacitor, following its distribution agreement with ultracapacitor leaders Nesscap.
As with other devices in the Nesscap portfolio, this mid-range electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) offers high energy density compared to traditional capacitors, typically three orders of magnitude higher than is possible with traditional electrolytic capacitors. Nesscap’s EDLC technology, enables the ultracapacitor to store and release energy much faster than batteries, which rely on slower chemical reactions.
Featuring four snap-in terminals, these cells offer more durable connectivity and functionality to meet the requirements of industrial applications. These compact and lightweight EDLCs are designed for use in applications such as automotive board net stabilisation, UPS/back up power, wind turbine pitch controls, handheld portable devices, emergency lighting, start/stop, power correction, sea buoys, robotics and military systems.
The new cell is 35.7 mm in diameter and 63.5 mm long and weighs 67 g with a guaranteed operation over a minimum of 500,000 cycles, having a typical operational lifetime of 10 years. Internal resistance is lower than 3.2m Ohm for 100 Hz AC and DC voltages.
With an operating temperature range of -40 to + 65°C, the cell is ideal for applications where extreme temperature capability is important.
