Solar power junction boxes protected to IP65
Three new junction boxes for PV solar power applications have been introduced by Multi-Contact. The Westlake box is cost-optimised for crystalline solar panels and its low profile means it can be installed directly under the module frame.
This saves installation time by removing the need to bend the connecting ribbons. Additional protection is provided by its projecting cover, which prevents the cables from kinking where they exit the cable sleeves. Rated current for the two pole box is 12A with diodes, and environmental protection is IP65 when mated, and IP2X unmated. Custom versions can be supplied on request, with specified lead lengths and a choice of MC3 or MC4 snap-in connector types.
Multi-Contact's new TwinBox is a compact, single pole, PV junction box developed for the fully automated assembly of thin-film PV modules. Its small size is made possible by integrating the MC4 connection technology within the box, which also minimises the amount of potting compound required. In addition, the shorter connections lead to savings in cable costs. High reliability is achieved by the precise matching of components, potting compound and adhesive pad. The rated current is up to 20A and environmental protection is IP67 when mated, or IP2X unmated.
For manual assembly, the economically priced JB-LC/SP is also intended for thin-film solar panels. A single pole 10A junction box, it is based on a well-established design and is available with an optional cable retainer. Custom versions are available on request.
